The Ge'ez Rite
The Ge'ez Rite of the Catholic Church reaches far back into Church history when St. Frumentius was sent by St. Athanasius, Patriarch of Alexandria, to Aksum as first Bishop of Ethiopia. He took with him the ancient Alexandrian Rite which was translated into Ge'ez, a semitic language that is now considered the sacred language of the Ethiopian and Eritrean Church.

The distinctive chants of the Divine Liturgy were given to the Church by St. Yared, a brilliant and holy musician of the 6th century.
